Ball & Claw Foot Chippendale Bed A copy of a mid-eighteenth century bed, this bed has a design that is dominated by artfully carved cabriole legs supporting vase turnings and tapering fluted columns. The fluting of the post appears bound by ribbon carving. The vases and the knees of the cabriole legs have ornate acanthus leaf hand carvings. Like on any successful tall post bed design, the tester and finials of this bed balance the upward thrust of the post and direct the eye back down along the posts. This is as ornate as American tall beds of the Chippendale period get. Like the original, the headposts are plain turned, the footposts are reeded and carved, and it has a 4-piece tester and finials.
