Copy of an Early 18th Century Canterbury
From The Shorter Dictionary of English Furniture we learn that the
term Canterbury was applied to a small music stand that could be rolled
under the piano. Descriptions of that period piece by Thomas Sheraton very
closely fit the structure of this piece. Today a Canterbury is most likely
to be used beside a chair or bed to hold magazines, newspapers and books within
easy access. This fine mahogany Canterbury with turned legs and single oak-lined
drawer.
